Test results

Getting your test results

When you attend for a test of any kind, you will be told how long you should expect to wait for the results.  Please bear this in mind and only call the surgery after sufficient time has elapsed.

Our reception staff are not qualified to comment on results, therefore it is your responsibility to check them and make any necessary follow-up appointment with the doctor/practice nurse.

Results of investigation e.g. blood tests; x-rays etc are available once they have been reported on by the doctor.

Whilst we endeavour to notify patients of abnormal results, we would ask you to assume some active responsibility in finding out the results of your tests.

TO ENSURE YOUR SAFETY, PLEASE ASK US FOR YOUR RESULTS.  DO NOT ASSUME THEY ARE NORMAL JUST BECAUSE WE HAVE NOT CONTACTED YOU.

Once a doctor has reviewed your test results, you can view them:

  • in your Patient Access account or
  • phone or visit us between 2.00pm and 4.00pm

Questions about your results

If you wish to speak with someone about your results, please fill out our test results request form and someone will be in touch.

Please note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate, unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data, or they are not capable of understanding the results.  For under 18 year olds, results can be obtained by a parent or legal guardian.

If you have had blood tests taken for any of the following reasons:

  • You were a hospital inpatient
  • Your specialist Nurse/Consultant has requested them at an outpatient appointment
  • You have been provided with Consultant labels and a blood bag to take to the treatment room
  • You attended a private hospital and your private Consultant has requested them

PLEASE DO NOT ASK RECEPTION STAFF FOR THE RESULTS OF THESE TESTS.

Your results will return to the health care provider that has requested them.

If the test was requested by a consultant in hospital, it may take 3 to 4 weeks before your GP is notified.

It is not the responsibility of your GP to follow up on bloods results they did not request.

You can contact your health care provider via their secretary or you may receive a letter in a few weeks detailing your blood results.

We appreciate this can be frustrating and is far from ideal, but unfortunately we do not have any control over this.

Patients requesting blood test results for hospital appointments - please note the hospital can access results via NIECR computer system.
