Ordering Repeat Prescriptions

Please call our surgery number 028 3888 1225 and press option 1 for our repeat prescription order line. You must state the name of the drug and the dose of each item when ordering prescriptions.  The colour of the drug or the reason for taking it is not sufficient information.  Receptionists are not allowed to issue a prescription on this basis.  Similarly the request for "all my repeats" is not permitted.  All medicines must be named - we can provide you with a list of these.  This service is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for your convenience.

Due to the high volume of calls being received daily, the receptionists will be unable to take ANY repeat prescription requests over the telephone.

We also offer online repeat prescriptions requests.   We would encourage our patients to register for our online service.  Our online ordering service allows you to request at your convenience. Please contact reception for further information. Please state where you would like your prescription sent to, or if you would prefer to collect it from the surgery yourself.

For your convenience, you can also leave in a written request for a repeat prescription.  Please place these requests in the repeat prescription box located at the front reception desk, or if we are closed, place in the black locked box situated on the front wall of our building.

Please allow 3 WORKING DAYS, for your request to be processed.

Acute prescriptions will only be available on the same day in exceptional circumstances.

Please allow 3 WORKING DAYS also, for hospital discharge/outpatient letters that have medication to be processed.

If you pick up a prescription you have ordered and there is a request that you see the doctor before your next prescription, please do so, otherwise the next request maybe declined.  To ensure best possible care, patients on repeat prescriptions should have a medication review once a year.

Remember to plan ahead for holidays.

Clear Pharmacy

We work closely with our local pharmacies’ in Donaghcloney and Waringstown.  They are happy to provide a prescription collection service from the surgery once a day.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription fill in our medication query form, or alternatively you can telephone the surgery and arrange a call back from one of our pharmacy team.

It should be noted that antibiotics are unlikely to be prescribed without seeing the doctor.

Medication reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, practice nurse or practice pharmacist at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Please allow 3 full working days (72 hours) for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

What to do with old medicines

Please take them to the pharmacy you got them from or bring them into the surgery. Do not put them in your household bin or flush them down the toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
